Sunset Thomas is the youngest inductee into the AVN Hall of Fame (2001) and is also a member of the Hustler Hall of Fame. The seminal sex-pot starred in HBO’s hit series Cathouse. She first broke into the industry with Michael Ninn from NinnWorx, who at the time was working for Larry Flynt. I asked Sunset about Ninn and her intro into the biz: “I love Michael. Yeah Michael and me used to work really well together. At the time the company was VCA, I actually was under contract and we did three movies together which won a lot of trophies too. We did Latex together, and then also Sex 1 and 2. The thing that I liked about Michael is he brought out the best in me. I think better than anybody.”

Thomas has a broad list of accolades, including Penthouse Pet of the Month in March 1996 and runner up for Pet of the Year in 1998. She is the mother of three children and is the aunt of adult film star Sunrise Adams. She has a rock solid body and one can tell that she looks after it very well. Last year, Thomas found herself at the annual Adult Entertainment Expo [AEE] and was asked by Vegaspopular.com to take a tour around the event and snag interviews when she could. “It was awesome because normally when I go to those shows I’m usually sitting, you know, behind the booth doing autographs and things like that with the fans. But it was really neat last year because I covered it for Robin Leech, and I was Press, instead of just talent. So I actually had to stand in line with some of the Press guys whom I’ve known for years, being in the business, and it was kinda neat for them too because they were all like ‘See now you gotta wait in line too Sunset’.” She was also a part of the group waiting to interview Jenna Jameson.

Thomas has also been revolutionary in some of her actions. She was the first major adult starlet to lend her services to the Bunny Ranch in Nevada, pleasuring men for money. In other words, she went the route of legalized prostitution, which didn’t sit very well with the big wigs in the adult industry. “They were like ‘Oh you making us look like sluts and whores’ and things like that, and I’m just like hello, they think you’re sluts and whores anyway. I’m just taking it to a place where I don’t get in trouble. I pay taxes on it, and I wanted to have sex with my fans, so what’s wrong with that? A lot of these girls are sneaking out and doing it anyway with feature dancing, and I just don’t want to take any chances you know?” As time went on however people began seeing things her way. “So I just decided to do it, and they gave me a hard time at first, and I really didn’t care what they thought. And as time went on, people just started to get to a point where they said, ‘Hey this is a smart thing that she’s doing.’” The thing about innovators is that no one is on board with their ideas at first. Kudos Ms. Thomas.

Thomas currently has a lot going on in her life. She is now affiliated with Vavoomtv.com and plans on putting out a reality series that shows a day in the life of a porn star. A porn star who has children, that is. Her three children plan on being very much a part of the upcoming series and it should score well with audiences, so stay on the look out. She doesn’t plan on going the Nina Hartley route, though, continuing to shoot movies until she is nearing her 50s (Hartley still looks great by the way!). Instead she has one more major film she is going to do to give back to her fan base, which has supported her for so many years. “What I want to do, because I am involved with Vavoom now, I didn’t even have to shoot this last movie because I haven’t shot in like three years… Can I shoot? Yeah, I can. But, I don’t have to. And I do a lot of stuff with Vavoom. I’m getting more involved with mainstream stuff and I just decided, I’ve got a wild hair up my butt, went to Steven that owns Vavoom, and then I also went to Larry Flynt from Hustler, because I started with Larry, and I wanted to end with him as well, and I said Stephen, I want to give something back to my fans. I’ve never actually said goodbye in doing my adult movies.”

So she is going to make one fan very happy. And that fan’s name is Chris. “So I actually have a guy fan, whose name is Chris, and he’s going to be the one who does the final movie with me… But I did get to see it because the next day he goes, “Sunset I couldn’t sleep because I was so excited to know I was going to do your final movie with you!” So yeah, he jerked off and ended up taking a picture of his cock and put it on his cell phone and showed me the next day while I was at the booth doing autographs.” I know what you’re probably wondering. If it wasn’t for your fans, of course yeah you work hard too, but if it weren’t for your fans, you wouldn’t be the big name you are. I don’t understand why some people want to get popular and then all of a sudden, be all snooty towards their fans.” Of course giving back doesn’t say much for those weird fan experiences one can come across. “Oh yah. I’ve had fans come up waiting in long lines while I’m doing autographs and stuff, and they are shaking so bad, that they’d pee right there in their pants…”

Hopefully she won’t have too many more of those. Either way, it’s a testament to the mark that she has left in the industry and hopefully there is nothing but more good things to come.
