Biography:
Chloe Jones was a beauty queen turned porn star whose tragic life came to an early end. Born Melinda Dee Jones in Houston, Texas, she was the youngest of three girls. Melinda was seven when her absentee father died in a car crash; she once predicted that, like him, she’d die before age 30. During a troubled adolescence in Silsbee, Texas, she was briefly committed to a mental hospital, and at 16 married a young Marine with whom she had a chaotic relationship. He divorced her when he discovered that she wasn’t waitressing, as she’d said, but working as a stripper.
Melinda moved to L.A., got an agent, and found some work as a fashion model – even landing a Vanity Fair cover photographed by the legendary Herb Ritts – but achieved success with Playboy and Penthouse centerfolds. Though she did mainstream TV cameos (Baywatch, Diagnosis Murder), most scripts she received were adult-oriented. Fans and adult studios alike clamored for her to make porn, but she didn’t want her three children to grow up with a mother who was a porn star. Reluctantly, Melinda became Chloe, shooting her first X-rated scene in 2001 with her second husband, who performed as Mike Scorpio.
After a rumored run-in with an escort client required facial reconstructive surgery, Chloe’s husband implored her to stop escorting, but she refused. Unable to watch her fall apart, he left in 2003. Chloe’s substance abuse wrecked her career (she lost her Vivid contract after only five months) and her health. Her liver failed and she was told she needed to go on a transplant waiting list. One morning in June 2005, Chloe was unresponsive, and her boyfriend called paramedics. Chloe Jones died penniless in a charity hospital, two weeks shy of her 30th birthday.
